Who We Are

Advice first. No conflicts. No commissions.

Ontario Energy Advisor is an independent home energy advisory firm. We help homeowners understand their home's actual performance and make well-sequenced upgrade decisions — before a contractor is ever involved.

Why we exist

The Ontario home energy upgrade market has a structural problem. The people most positioned to advise homeowners on what to do — insulation contractors, HVAC installers, solar companies — all have a financial stake in the answer. An insulation company recommends insulation. A heat pump installer recommends a heat pump. A solar company recommends solar.

There's nothing dishonest about this. But it means most Ontario homeowners make major upgrade decisions without genuinely objective input. They spend $25,000 on a heat pump in a leaky, under-insulated house and wonder why their bills didn't drop as much as the salesperson suggested. Or they spend thousands on attic insulation before discovering the real issue is the rim joist. Or they install solar without understanding how much the system performance depends on their consumption profile.

We built Ontario Energy Advisor to fill the gap between the homeowner who wants to do the right thing and the installer who wants to sell something. Our advisors have no equipment to sell and no installer relationships that create commission conflicts. Our job is to tell you what your home actually needs — ranked by payback period, rebate eligibility, and your own priorities.

How we work

Every engagement starts with a certified home energy audit — a formal EnerGuide evaluation performed by a registered energy advisor (REA) certified by Natural Resources Canada. The audit produces objective, measured data about your home's energy performance: an air leakage rate from a blower door test, thermal imaging results, and a ranked list of recommended upgrades with modelled savings and payback periods.

From the audit report, we build an upgrade plan that sequences improvements correctly — typically air sealing before insulation, envelope before mechanical — and maps each measure to applicable rebate programs including the Home Renovation Savings Program, Canada Greener Homes Loan, and Enbridge rebates. We handle the documentation requirements for each program.

When you're ready to proceed with contractors, we connect you with vetted local installers from our network — people we've reviewed for quality, licensing, and customer service. We receive no referral fees or commissions from these referrals.

What we don't do

We don't install anything. We don't sell equipment. We don't receive commissions from contractors we recommend. We don't upsell measures that audit data doesn't support. We don't tell homeowners solar is a good idea if their roof orientation or consumption profile doesn't support it.

Our only financial interest is in giving clients the best possible advice. That's the model. It's simpler than it sounds, but it's genuinely rare in this industry.

Service area

We serve homeowners across the Greater Toronto Area and southern Ontario, including Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Markham, Vaughan, Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton, and communities throughout Durham, York, Peel, and Halton regions. What we stand behind

Audit First

No upgrade recommendation without measured data. Every plan starts with a certified EnerGuide evaluation and blower door test — not a salesperson's walkthrough.

Independence

We don't sell equipment, don't install anything, and don't earn commissions from contractor referrals. Our advice has no financial conflict behind it.

Sequence Matters

Doing upgrades in the wrong order wastes money. We plan the full retrofit path — not just the next purchase — before any contractor relationship begins.

Honest Economics

We model payback periods honestly, including scenarios where an upgrade doesn't pencil out as well as the installer's estimate suggested. We tell you the real number.

Rebate Navigation

Ontario's rebate programs are complicated and the sequencing requirements are strict. We handle this as a standard part of every engagement — not an afterthought.

Vetted Connections

When you're ready for a contractor, we connect you with vetted local installers. Quality and licensing matter — we don't send clients to whoever bids lowest.
